Blackford County Schools will now be able to participate with other surrounding school districts in providing vocational education courses for high school students, according to Superintendent Ken Kline.

Kline, who reported on the matter at the school board’s meeting on Tuesday night, Dec. 15, said that the administrative board consisting of the superintendents from each school district involved in the combined vocational education program recently met to discuss the issue.

On Wednesday, Nov. 25, the Blackford County school district’s request to be accepted into the Area 18 Career & Technical Education program was approved by the administrative board.

Area 18 includes the school districts of Adams Central, Bluffton-Harrison, South Adams, Southern Wells, North Adams, Jay County, Northern Wells and Huntington. The headquarters for Area 18 are located in Bluffton.

“What this means is that now we can participate with the other school corporations in providing vocational education courses,” explained Kline.
